GORGEOUS NOTHINGS

Mandy trained as a Surface Pattern and Textile Designer and teacher. She runs regular textile workshops at The Hearth and throughout the UK and France and makes work to sell and exhibit. 

Her work is made from old and worn fabrics, refashioning vintage textiles into new collages which are embellished with stitch and appliqué. She re-cycles and reuses very old and often disintegrating materials which have been passed on or discarded. She consciously relates to the thrift and ‘make- do and mend” culture of past times as well as folk art traditions and techniques which includes cutting up and unpicking utility patchworks and quilts made by women in domestic settings. Collages, large wall quilts and garments bring together precious fragments to form evocative compositions. The viewer is forced to re-examine fabrics that have become flawed through wear and tear, to find in them a new beauty.

Mandy Pattullo has   written two books about her techniques, "Textile Collage" (2016)   and "Textiles Transformed" ( 2020).
