In June we heard the wonderful news that the many nominations The Hearth received for an Ecclesiastical Movement For Good award ensured that we were successful in being awarded £1,000. We are so grateful to our many friends for taking the time to nominate us - Thank You! This funding will help us to resume our community events and activities which have helped to make The Hearth a rich, vibrant and welcoming place for the local and wider community.
Trustees have had a lot to think about and act upon during the past 12 weeks and they have been working hard to ensure The Hearth will be ready to welcome back many of the activities that have made us so successful in the past. Some costs have not stopped despite the building having been closed to the public and we know that investment will be needed to ensure we can bring back all the wonderful activities for which The Hearth is so valued.
The Board of Trustees are therefore delighted to announce that The Hearth has been successful in its application to the Government’s Small Business Grant Fund. We have been awarded a payment of £10,000 via Northumberland County Council. With such a vote of confidence in all the benefits we bring to our communities and visitors we are keen to ensure that this support not only ensures the background maintenance of The Hearth but will also contribute to the regeneration of this very special place as we begin to open up.
Going forward, the "New Normal Working Group" was set up by Trustees to include representation by tenants (artists and cafe), staff and Horsley Village Church and they have been meeting regularly to discuss safe working practices at The Hearth for tenants returning to their studios, and looking at how we can start to welcome back visitors and hall users safely, as Government guidance permits.
In the Hearth Café, Jarvis and Alanna have worked hard to put in place all the measures recommended to ensure that their Cafe is run in a secure way for their staff and valued customers. They are now open 7 days a week, and you can see their Sit-in and Take-away menus on their website page. There have been a few necessary changes to ensure your visit is safe and enjoyable:
Tables inside the cafe require advance booking, please ring on 01661 853 563 to secure a table (the number of tables has been reduced to ensure distancing is maintained).
There is limited space outside in the garden for customers with dogs.
Customers will be asked to leave their contact details which will be held on file for 21 days.
There is a one-way system operating in the Manse: entry is via the front door, exit via the back door.
Apart from these measures, the Cafe is as warm and welcoming as ever, the scones just as delicious and Sunday roast as much of a treat! Alanna, Jarvis and their staff look forward to seeing their regular customers once more and meeting new ones visiting for the first time. Hope to see you soon!
