About the event
Fresh from their residency at The Sage, Sam Partridge (English Concertina) and Grace Smith (Fiddle) bring an explorative approach to traditional English music. Equally at home unearthing old tunes from the archives as they are in composing new additions to the repertoire, Sam and Grace are excited about this new duo and look forward to sharing their music with you.
The Silver Shantymen perform sea shanties and other songs of the sea. Their repertoire consists of work songs, sung when merchant navy crews were hoisting the sails and rigging or weighing the anchor and these songs tell stories of sea battles, romance, pirates, friendships, hardship, fishing and whaling, drinking and unrequited love. They are performed theatrically with humour and pathos.
