FULL FIGURE PORTRAITS

Led by Jason Skill

8 week course/Starts 23rd April (10-12)

This course aims to help you start on the road to figure painting by helping you become more skilled at paintings fabrics, hands and feet/ shoes and also build a better understanding of body structure.

When artists first begin to paint portraits they generally concentrate on faces. This is enough of a challenge, so any successes bring joy. As the painter becomes a little more experienced they want to add more of the body of the sitter into the frame.  New challenges arise. They need to work on painting folds in cloth as well as rendering hands, feet and shoes, while capturing a reasonable feel for the body form, stance and gesture. All take work and training.

It takes time, but with full figures a whole new world of possibilities opens up, that 'head studies' alone do not offer. Now context has impact. The figures can tell stories.

Level   – This course would suit those who have a little experience of drawing and painting.

Why does Jason think this course would be of value to you as an artist ?

This course is aimed at helping you become more skilled and confident in painting figures. The skills taught on this course will have real impact on your drawing and painting, adding considerably to your skill set, helping you lift up your art to the next level.

What will you do on the course ?

  • Look at drawing basic body forms so that you can visualise the structure under the clothes within your reference material.

  • Examine tried and tested ways of rendering cloth and the architecture of folds within clothing.

  • Drawing and painting hands

  • Drawing and painting feet

  • Creating a simple figure painting that pulls together some of the skills covered on the course.
