Supporting the Community

Updated: Dec 8, 2021

The Hearth has been offering craft sessions especially for small groups to support older people who have experienced isolation during COVID lockdowns and restrictions, including those who are now challenged by a lack of confidence and the opportunity to join groups, whilst retaining a feeling of safety and ensuring socially distancing.

With thanks to grant support, we ran a short programme offering a range of Craft workshops for older people to either learn new skills or just brush up their existing talents plus the opportunity to meet other like-minded people, chat, share creative ideas and lockdown experiences.

The events were organised by the Trustees of the Hearth and supported by some of our amazing Volunteers… what a TEAM.

The 4 Groups were led by two amazing specialist Local Artists, both ‘Friends of the Hearth’ ….

Omi Pharncote:

Omi has over 16 years’ experience of running felt making workshops for schools, community groups, third sector organisations, NHS and individuals.

Omi led the first two sessions –

· Make a Wet Felt cover for a book or small felt bag

· Felt Yuletide Decorations

Jo Bourne:

A printmaker living in Newcastle upon Tyne, she has been printmaking for the last 30 years and for the last 12 years she has been a member of Northern Print.

Jo led the next two sessions –

· Handmade Tealight Christmas Cards

· Hand printed wrapping paper for Christmas

At all the sessions there was Tea & Cake and some totally amazing creative outcomes and very positive feedback PLUS many, many requests for the Hearth to offer more special craft session in 2022 – we will be delighted to do this IF we are successful in being awarded grant funding to support this programme. …

Just look at what some of our visitors achieved.
