Fishing Lasses

Fishing lasses worked up and down the coasts of Great Britain for two centuries. Gutting, preparing, sorting and selling fish they would have been a common sight in the harbour when the boats came in.. Now when you google “Fishing Lass”: it seems they are largely forgotten though in the north east  photographs and songs record the important role these women performed in providing food for us to eat. This is an applique and stitch course that celebrates those strong lasses. Mine references the local Cullercoats fish lasses who even attracted the attention of the famous American painter Winslow Homer. I will provide a variety of fabrics so yours can be dressed according to taste and you will work on to the base of a faded quilt top.
