become a trustee
DO YOU HAVE A PASSION FOR THE ARTS & CREATIVE COMMUNITIES?
Become a Trustee and utilise your skill sets to help shape the strategic direction of The Hearth Charity.
Play a hugely important role in our organisation as a Trustee and Board member. Help in defining the strategy and plans for the Hearth and oversee the operations and work of the staff and are expected to make a commitment to attend monthly meetings. Trustees can also become more involved with sub-committees and particular aspects of planning and operations if they wish to do so, and are in a position to give the additional time.
We need a diverse skill set on the board, reflecting the communities we serve and contributing relevant experience or training including fundraising, experience with volunteers, creative project management, working with partnership organisations, marketing amongst but a few. There are always opportunities for people to find out more about what is involved with the role, prior to deciding whether this is the right role for them.

the hearth centre
The Hearth Centre (Horsley) Ltd is a company limited by guarantee and a registered charity.
The Centre has existed since 2004 and is a unique venue advancing education within the arts and providing facilities and opportunities for learning, creativity and community engagement. Facilities include 8 working artist studios, a Café and hireable spaces within the grounds of our beautiful Grade 2 listed building. With over 20,000 visitors each year it holds a special place in the hearts of many.
Income is generated from tenants rents, ticket sales, hall hire alongside public sector and charitable trust investment and some private donations.
The Hearths mission is to create a sustainable and resilient arts venue that supports our tenants, emerging creative talent and enterprise whilst extending our cultural offer and access to the arts via partnerships with cultural organisations catering for communities within rural areas. Hospitality is provided by the Hearth Cafe, which is a commercial business.
We are dedicated to enriching lives and fostering creativity, helping people connect through shared experiences. The Hearth offers a warm, inclusive environment where creativity and community thrive.
governance and vacant roles
The Hearth Centre is governed by a Board, the members of which are also the Trustees of the company as a charity. All Board members are non-executive directors who give their time and expertise on an unpaid basis.
The Board is responsible for setting strategy and ensuring the company has the financial and staff resources it needs to meet its objectives, alongside maintaining the Grade 2 listed building. It delegates the day-to-day management of the company to a Centre Coordinator / Administrator who manages the staff team and, with the support of the Board, manages our stakeholder relationships.
Our Board is currently composed of 5 members appointed by the Board and its members. At present, the full Board meets on a monthly basis.
A Chair is appointed by the Board.
