The Hearth Arts Centre is a Community Hub well recognised for arts and events, and a venue for workshops and classes, history talks, live music, and environmental projects.  Open 7 days a week, facilities include 8 artists' studios, a very popular family-run café and a community hall which occupies two beautiful Grade 2 listed buildings.  Overall we attract over 20,000 visitors a year with a turnover of just under £60,000.

Help develop the strategic direction and succession of The Hearth Charity and Community Arts Centre.  The posts below would offer an opportunity to positively contribute to the local and wider community, in ensuring the sustainability of this well-established and successful local Community hub. 

A Buildings and Estate Oversight Trustee or Volunteer to support the  management of its buildings and facilities

This voluntary post would require a commitment of

6 – 8 hours per month, mainly working from home.

Duties would include;

  • Facilities management.

  • The appointing of contractors for work and repairs on site.

  • The overseeing of our energy consumption.

  • There is also the opportunity to support projects which might be of special interest to you.

  • This post will be built around the individual and is flexible – working to your strengths and interests.

Researching and Writing

A Trustee or Volunteer to Develop Funding Applications

Whether you are at an early stage of your working career and looking to develop your own professional & personal development; Already have valuable experience in securing funding or have retired and are looking to ‘make a difference' this post could be just what you are looking for.  This is a rewarding opportunity to see the direct impact your efforts will have on the work of a small community centre.

  • Become part of a strong team ensuring 'The Hearth' works really closely with vulnerable adults and children across the local community.

  • Working with others you will prepare, write & submit funding submissions whilst developing strong relationships with funding bodies – in order to secure funds for Hearth Projects and Core Costs.

The Hearth Charity has established an enviable track record of engaging with its local community and achieved admirable stability and commitment from its 'family' of tenants and 'users'. plus financial stability.  All this was achieved thanks to its Board of Trustees and a team of loyal volunteers.

The role will impact the long-term strategic vision of the Hearth to ensure sustainability and effective management of the Charity.

The Chair of the Board of Trustees requirements:

  • Be the public face of the Hearth and ensure leadership and direction for the Board.  

  • Ideally, you will have strong networking capabilities

  • Be an inspiration to the Board members and promote the team and collaborative working.  

  • Ideally, you will have some understanding of charity issues and strategy with an interest in either arts, music or local history.
