Caretaker Vacancy

THE Hearth Centre (Horsley) Ltd: The Hearth Art Centre

Part-Time 7 Hours per week.

Basic salary £9.50 per hour, Holidays – 40 hours per annum pro-rata

Working hours – 7 hours per week over two days – (times/days may vary and require flexibility)

DEADLINE: Midday, Monday 30th January 2023

 

The Hearth Art Centre Horsley is looking for a Caretaker to supervise and maintain the site premises on a part-time basis. The duties include:

- Ensure the public areas of the buildings are kept in a clean and orderly manner complying with health and safety regulations.

- Ensure the buildings are kept secure when not occupied.

- Light gardening duties: maintaining the grounds

 

The post suits someone who would enjoy working in a creative community and enjoys using their own initiative. Previous estates experience preferred but not essential. Driving licence preferred but also not essential.

THE HEARTH CENTRE (HORSLEY) LTD JOB DESCRIPTION CARETAKER– PART TIME. 7 HOURS PER WEEK DUTIES: - Ensure the public areas of the buildings are kept in a clean and orderly manner complying with health and safety regulations. - Ensure the buildings are kept secure when not occupied. - Light gardening duties: maintaining the grounds RESPONSIBILITIES: - Ensure and oversee the cleaning / maintenance of public areas of the buildings - general cleaning/maintenance of outside areas as required - Record and report any repair and maintenance issues that need addressing - Performing basic repairs and maintenance tasks as required - Maintaining The Hearths plants to the front and rear of the buildings - Testing of fire and burglar alarms and defibrillator once a month - Report the need for cleaning/maintenance materials as required. - Ensure buildings kept secure when not occupied. Heaters and lights turned off. - Prepare and set up the Hall for user groups as required (chairs and tables). - Adhering to The Hearths safety polices to create a safe working environment for everyone SKILLS/CHARACTERISTICS REQUIRED: Basic DIY/ Gardening skills Flexible approach Initiative and ability to work unsupervised Organisational skills and ability to manage own time Reliable and trustworthy Problem solving abilities Accuracy and attention to detail Knowledge of cleaning and maintenance processes Understanding of The Hearth’s mission and values REPORTING LINES: Day to day with The Hearth Coordinator. OVERVIEW OF TERMS AND CONDITIONS: Basic salary £9.50 per hour Holidays – 40 hours per annum Sick pay- 1 month on full pay, then SSP thereafter Working hours – 7 hours per week, over two days – (times/days may vary and require flexibility, some weekend work maybe required) THE HEARTH CENTRE CARETAKER’S TASKS EVERY VISIT Liaise with The Hearth Coordinator Report any damage or maintenance issues to Trustee or Coordinator Pick up any litter outside Empty all bins Make sure deliveries are stored away safely and shed kept organised. ONCE A WEEK Ensure all fire exits are clear and signage is not obscured. Ensure all First aid and fire equipment are in place Ensure the plants are maintained and weeding of access areas Testing of fire and burglar alarms and defibrillator MONTHLY Visual inspection inside/outside of the building and report any damage or maintenance issues to a Trustee or the Coordinator AT THE END OF EVERY VISIT Ensure all the heaters are off – kitchen and toilet water heaters Ensure all the lights are switched off Ensure the building is locked & secure Communicate with the Café if necessary Communicate with The Hearth Coordinator in the office if necessary Communicate with the resident artists if necessary Report any issues to a Trustee or the Coordinator
