About the event
Balter are a contemporary folk quartet who have emerged from the music scene in Newcastle. Leaning heavily towards their shared love of Scottish music, they combine traditional and original material with percussive step-dance to create a high energy, driven sound which complements and stretches their traditional influences. The interplay between two fiddles, mandolin and accordion generates a distinctive sound which explores new textures; gelled together with intricate arrangements. Taking to the stage with exuberance and an infectious live energy, Balter have been performing extensively around the North East of England and Scotland and have begun to extend their audiences further afield.
'We were blown away by Balter when they supported us recently. Their innovative arrangements played with style and skill were a joy to hear. What a great band!' – The Shee
There will be a Q & A session with Balter at 7pm, a great opportunity for young people to find out about what it takes to progress as a Folk musician.
